May you find someone who you beat in time with
Clockwork Hearts

A fear of being open
With everybody looking in
So near, yet so broken
Our loose components spin
Rotate round so wild
Like a key scratch round the latch
Inside, with secrets filed
Too afraid to catch
That tiger by the tail
A clockwork feline, fine
Afraid that if we fail
The gears, they might grind
We find a way to wind down
Independent, on our own
Safely without meshing, crowned
The gears turn alone
A mess of mechanisms
Independent, running free
A city built on schisms
Not how it’s meant to be
There’s danger in the gears
There’s safety out the mesh
In the bearings of our fears
Our doubts and worries thresh
Thrashing round the gears
Independently they play
Open are our fears
So closed is how we stay
With the fear of being open
To that someone looking in
With gear turns unspoken
Churning underneath the skin
