Sports at its best.

Grand ceremony to open events;
basketball, volleyball—folks even fence.
Weightlifting, clean and press over the head;
some like the finesse of ping pong instead.

Lean athletes swimming and making a splash;
runners engaged in the hundred yard dash.
Rowing long boats is a strenuous race;
gymnasts who tumble with power and grace.

Sought is a medal—bronze, silver or gold;
at the Olympics intrigue will unfold.
I like variety, sports at its best;
Rio this time for the ultimate test.
