Reminiscing about a photograph from someone close a long time ago.
What a foreign face that is!
A stranger, though a beautiful one,
A little familiar, yet something,
From another era,
A past lifetime,
Smiling and bright,
I wonder what is making her happy..
Whatever it is,
I'll have what she's having,

But it IS just a snapshot,
From so long ago,
A little familiar,
From another era,
A past lifetime,
Smiling and bright,
Could it be that the "happy" is only in that moment?
Maybe what she's having in that moment
Is only for that moment.

Reaching back, the face is less foreign,
Sometimes happy, often sad or angry,
More familiar now,
From another era,
A past lifetime
Smiling and bright,
Back then she smiled for me,
And often only for me,
But too often I only made her frown
