Autumn and Winter battle for control of the seasons.

Autumn's Concern
By
E C Wesch

Winter tried to barrel in,
her crisp, cold air could freeze your skin.
But Autumn decided she would strongly resist,
Winter cannot, she must desist.

They argued for hours, during freezing rain,
back and forth, neither did gain.
"My beautiful leaves are not ready to fall,
They haven't changed colors yet, no, not at all."

"What do I care, for your gold, or your red,
I'll destroy them all, they'll look better dead.
I'll coat the land in bark brown, and white,
The contrast will be, a most glorious sight."

"You'll kill my children, you wouldn't dare.
They're your family too, how could you not care?
I'll ask our father to bring on the heat,
Fire his furnace, and melt all your sleet."

"My season is pure, fresh, and clean,
while yours is pathetic, obscenely green.
Flaunting your colors, like a common whore,
like an imitation rainbow, oh what a bore."

"We'll, lets ask our sisters, Summer and Spring,
what they both think, of this whole thing.
I'm sure they'll both have something to say,
your season is still, a whole month away."

Autumn called to her sisters, Summer and Spring,
explained to them both, about everything.
Spring was't helpful, she is still much to young,
to stand against Winter, so she just held her tongue.

Summer, much older, was calm and serene.
Thought real hard, and wanted to scream.
If Winter took over, before Autumn's end,
what's to keep her from doing it, again and again.

She could lengthen her season, for Winter is strong,
we need to convince her, her plan is all wrong.
Autumn's season, helps the earth nod its head,
blankets the ground, and puts it to bed.
