Grandchildren
Won
A gymnastic salute

Her tiny arms raised in salute,
Ribbons tangled in delight,
This mini grandchild gymnast
Is soaring high, taking flight.

She is so young - yet
Unbelievably wise.
Her old soul sparkles;
I see my Mom in her eyes.

Yellow curls and tangles neatly coiled,
Running, tumbling, dancing wild.
I am thankful for this time
To proudly watch this tiny grandchild.

For poem PSU

Grams, Penn State scored!”, exclaims her brother;
Excitedly my grandson beckons me to watch the game.
A shock of blonde hair falls toward his eyes;
To not miss a play, fingers brush aside his mane.

Talking over the refs’ calls, we await Penn State's fate,
To pass time, my miniscule athlete practices kicking;
Leg swinging at air, an imaginary ball, into a net-
Soccer’s his game; now Ohio State’s clock is ticking.

Together we watch these old rivals battle
For pride, for title, for fans dressed in white -
It’s a win! He bolts from his chair in boyish delight!
Oh I am twice grateful for this special night!
