 Christmas Tree  (E)
December 2016 Entry Verdant Poetry Contest
#2105618 by Chris Breva

If I could be a Christmas tree
How would I act and feel then
Would fear of dying enter me
Or a place of honor I win?

As I stand perched in the thicket
As I await the cutting ax
Do I tremble like a picket
Do I stand and try to relax?

I know when the season is done
I will be burned in a bonfire
Will my will then be all bygone
Or will it simply fan my ire?

What kind of Christmas tree am I
Perhaps I have no wish to try?
