Scottish- The first person entering a home on New Year's Day sets the years luck
FIRST FOOTER

(Scotland- whoever enters the house first on New Year's Day sets the year's luck)

I can't but wonder
Who's to say
Who'll be first in
On New Year's Day

Perhaps someone
From work I'll see
To say we've won
The lottery

Might be a neighbor
With a cake
So that I
Don't have to bake

Some nice friend
Will stop to chat
And say they've found
My long lost cat

Or wealthy Uncle
Adhemar
Will drop by with
A brand new car

It may not quite
Work out that way
Bad news may come
On New Year's Day

It may be that
My Dentist Sal
Will say I need
A root canal

Or perhaps
My budget's fried
And my credit
Card's denied

Whoever is
The first to come
I'll be OK
Except for one

Dear Lord one thing
I must confess
Don't let it be
The IRS
