 Life in the Fifties  (E)
Contest Entry Decade Dash January 2017
#2107136 by Chris Breva

Prompt Three

We know the woman had her faults

She sang the old Tennessee Waltz

Oh how heart breaking it must be

To see the things she had to see.

Cigarettes rolled up in sleeves

Chevy’s racing on the summer’s eves

High school sweaters around one’s neck

Getting slapped for just a peck.

Old Glory waving in the squares

The Ten Commandments on the stairs

The DJ spinning forty-fives

Everybody helping the other lives.

Doors were never locked back then

Oh if it were those days again!

Prompt Three

Sonnet

14 lines eight syllables each no iambic meter intended
