 Resolutions Kept  (E)

Many people have probably already given up their new year's resolutions even though we're only a week into the new year. My new year's resolution remains the same and I'm determined to follow it through. My resolution, as silly as it may seem, is to do at least five reviews per day on WDC. Since I love doing reviews anyway, this resolution is one I should have no problem keeping. In fact I've already done at least fifteen reviews today. I did six or more with the anniversary reviews forum and I've done at least another six with the Newbie Welcome Wagon. I also did a few reviews by request over the past twenty-four hours. Reviews are very important to me. Not only do they help me maintain my premium membership, and with over four hundred items in your port a premium is a must, but it also gives me a chance to give back. Authors, whether on here or in the world in general are like family to me. I guess that means I consider myself akin to Stephen King, James Patterson, and others. In doing reviews I am able to let my brothers and sisters know what they are doing that I like and don't like. Like life, writing doesn't come with an owners manual. In many cases we must simply write what we personally like and hope that it scratches an itch for somebody else. Reviews tell us whether we've hit a home run or struck out altogether. Therefore I personally feel it is an obligation on my behalf to do reviews. I'm no authority on writing even if I am a traditionally published writer. Like everybody else I learn by trial and error. However it gives me a great sense of satisfaction to be able to help other authors sharpen their skills in some small way. Even my doctor says I should continue doing so because it has actually helped improve my health and my quality of life.

Many people consider writing and doing reviews an avocation. To me it is a career. Yes, I have an income source that pays my bills because anybody knows that it is unlikely that a poet will ever survive on poetry alone. However I consider writing my number one priority in life. If I can write I am very happy. The thought of ever doing anything but writing is unthinkable to me. The prophet Jeremiah said that he could not do anything but preach God's word because it burned like a fire in his bones, Jeremiah 20: 9. I feel the same way about writing. If I didn't have a computer to write with I'd use my smart phone. If not it then pen and paper or simply write it out in the dirt in my yard! I am compelled to write. Contrary to the opinion of some, reviews are still a form of creative writing. True there is a lot of redundancy but no two piece are ever the same. Therefore each review is bound to be slightly different.

So my new year's resolution was, is, and will remain to write as many reviews as possible, with a minimum of five per day being my measuring stick.
