A rhyming poem about official state birds.
Each U.S. state has its official bird.
Seven states selected the cardinal;
western meadowlark by six was preferred.
Having repeats is unremarkable.

The mockingbird and bluebirds were chosen
by five and by four states respectively.
The choice of state bird has been long frozen.
Learning this in school is necessity.

Some states have a bird uniquely their own.
Louisiana has its brown pelican.
The roadrunner of N.M. is well known.
The brown thrasher of Georgia is elegant.

The common loon and Minnesota seem apt.
So, please name your state’s bird. No hesitation?
Did its name spring to mind, or did you feel trapped?
Do you know some states have a state crustacean?
