A poem I've written dedicated to my Grandad, who is currently fighting cancer. 💕
Grandad

You were the man who was always there,
You always walked so tall and proud,
As if you didn't have a care.

You were the man who would sit me on your knee, and just sing to me.

You always advised,
And laughed with me,
Oh how Grandad,
I wish we could still be.

You'll always be my Grandad,
No matter how this changes you,
I can only love you more for fighting the changes that are happening too.

It's nearly a year since they confirmed that word,
One that I wished so hard, wouldn't occur.
You were my hero,
My best friend too,
And they will always stay so true.

A years gone by,
You're half the size you once stood.
The voice fading, that we once understood,

You believe for better,
And you believe for us,
The ones who it hit just like a bus.
You've fought for your country,
Compared to this, that wasn't your toughest fight,
But you're still here, staying tight.
And for us it isn't a pretty sight.

It isn't pretty, it isn't nice,
But one day soon we'll lose you some night.

I know it's nearing,
As each day goes by,
But Grandad,
I won't say goodbye.
I know one day I'll see you again,
But please tell me how to deal with this pain.

It sounds selfish,
But please don't go,
I've never felt a love like ours before.
