A 'Go Vat' poem about your baby-to-be
Bumped

Two years ago, just a slim, blushing bride
Now hold your belly, a wonder's inside
Call up your mom. A baby is coming!

Girlfriends are squinting, not sure what you hide
Waiting a while, but the bump has been spied
Tell all your friends. A baby is coming!

Queasy and anxious, you feel double-wide
Husband so loving, he stays by your side
Time to tell work a baby is coming!

Water has broken, the cramps won't subside
Rush to the hospital, legs open wide
Look, mom and dad, your baby is coming!

Go Vat form: originated in Cambodia, but French influenced. It consists of a couplet of usually 8 syllables (though I chose to use 10), which sets the rhyme for the subsequent stanzas, and a third line which can be repeated totally or partially. I chose to be less strict about making every rhyme unique because I thought it read better like this.

aaB aaB aaB ... (where all the a lines rhyme, and all the B lines are roughly the same or end the same - it is common for them to change slightly as I do here)
