To all of those out there who have had their hearts broken: this one's for you.
I am a puppet,
That hangs by your whims.
Through rapids of slander,
You force me to swim.
Over years I have learned,
Not to try to fight back,
For I know from experience,
You’re always hungry to attack.
I’ve explored every crevice,
Every corner of your soul,
And have found not one trace,
Of love in your bones.
Your steely grey eyes,
Always dart here and where,
As if looking for someone,
You know is not there.
But despite your sharp tongue,
Shooting bullets of words,
And your walls built high,
Guarded by firebirds,
Even still I found a way,
Straight into your heart,
Through cracks that I know,
Only broken promises can start.
See, I know the secret,
That you’ve locked away,
That your soul was once taken,
And your heart flew away.
Memories of darkness,
With an ever-set sun,
The pain in your heart,
Of losing the one.
Tears prick your eyes,
But you wipe them away,
Only let the world see,
Your eyes steely and grey.
But underneath your cold glares,
I know who you are.
You only wear the tough armor,
To hide all your scars.
And even though you
May feel lost and alone,
Just know that I too,
Once had no love in my bones.
My heart was once stolen,
All my soul ripped out,
Only memories of darkness,
And a pain in my heart.
But love, let me tell you,
Walls do you no good,
And pushing people away,
Will leave you misunderstood.
I know it seems harder,
To let people in,
But if you do, then people,
Can step into your skin.
They can feel the broken shards,
And taste your briny tears,
I have done all this, darling,
I have felt all your fears.
Take my hand, my love,
Let me remind you how it feels,
Let me thaw your cold bones,
From your head to your heels.
I know that the darkness,
Is hard to forget,
But I can teach you to fly,
Above clouds of regret.
I am a puppet,
That hangs by your whims.
Through rapids of slander,
You force me to swim.
But with every ounce of my being,
I know for a fact,
That you can be saved,
Though the odds may seem stacked.
Your steely grey eyes,
They don’t dart anymore,
Because we are not broken,
Like birds, we soar.
