Demons visit a Mardi Gras reveler
I looked in the mirror, and what did I see?
There was a vile demon staring at me.
What could be happening, I thought to myself?
I felt faint, so I grabbed onto the shelf.

OK, I’m not dreaming, I know I’m awake.
It could be the mirror is somehow a fake.
My friends must be laughing at their cruel joke.
I’ll find a new mirror, but first need a smoke.

I quietly opened my hotel room door,
and made sure that no one was out on the floor.
Then I slipped down the stairs to the lobby bath,
hoping no one would spy this weird psychopath.

I eased open the door, no one was inside,
so I walked to the mirror, stifling my pride.
I couldn’t believe what I saw in the mirror,
the demon was there! Now I held back my fear.

I remember drinking a bottle last night,
and a witch that was dancing gave me a fright.
Her eyes were bright red, like a devil from hell,
it must have been her who bequeathed me the spell.

I’ve heard of things happening at Mardi Gras,
but I thought it was just superstition and awe.
I’ll have to find someone who can break this spell,
but who will it be? Will I know how to tell?

The phone book should show me a psychic or two,
I’m sure if I tell them, they’ll know what to do.
I found Voodoo Queen by the name of Marie,
she lived in the Bayou, agreed to see me.

“Oh my, look at you, such a horrible sight,
if anyone sees you they’ll have quite a fright.
Don’t worry, I know what we both have to do,
in just a short time you’ll be looking like new.”

“Oh thank you,” I said. “I’ve been struggling within,
on what I might tell you and how to begin,
but you seem to know what has happened to me,
I’m a terrible sight, on this we agree.”

“The witch of the pagans has done this before,
that’s why Mardi Gras night we lock all our doors.
Drink this you’ll be cured, now get back on the road,
before dark so there’s not a new episode.”

“You’re an angel to help me, thank you my dear.
How much do I owe you? I’ll pay you right here.
I see by this mirror that you;ve broken the spell,
I'm truly grateful and I wish you well."

"The debt is not counted in money, oh no!
You’ll find that my payment will be in what grows.
Down here in the Bayou things don't work the same.
We give and take back, that's the name of the game."

“I don’t understand what you’re trying to say,
but I’ll take my leave and get out of your way.
I’m sure you are busy at this time of year,
but I’m so glad I found you while I was here.”

“What I’m trying to tell you is this, my son,
there’s always a payment for what we have done.
I can’t stop a spell without making my own,
by tomorrow you’ll find that your wings have grown.”

“Wings, are you serious, that’s not why I came,
this is my life, are you playing a game?
I can’t live with wings like a bird; I’m a man,
was that why you lured me here? Was that your plan?"

“To banish a demon a new spell is due.
I’m sure that your wings will look perfect on you!
After all, it’s better than a demon face.
You could look at wings as a sign of God’s grace."

"Now off with you please, I have potions to mix,
so I’m here, for others who need a quick fix;
although Mardi Gras brings us parties and cheer,
remember that demons and creatures live here."
