a hyperbolic description of how we can all feel about jealousy
THE LIFE AND TIMES

Could isolation be my solution?
Would being ostracised leave me less deprived?
I see green constantly
maybe my envy would ease
if it was only four walls I could see
perhaps four walls is all I really need.
I could decorate them,
draw and paint them,
invite visitors to wonder at my creations,
entirely unique
no influence no technique.
I could watch tears brim in their eyes
eyelashes capsize,
but I insist, do not make a wish
there is no room for superstition
in my one person institution,
take your social norms elsewhere
or stand right here and simply stare.
I could watch you barge right in,
you with everything
but I would sit dead still
no longer do I care
no longer does green trouble me
no depictions of verdant scenes on my walls.

isolation could be my solution
but for now I will be content
to retreat to the refuge in my mind,
and continue to imagine
how people could marvel at the masterpieces
they might find inside.
