This is a poem about how we sometimes pretend to be someone we are not to get attention.

The ugly Truth

Today, i saw myself in the mirror
And saw someone centuries old;
I saw others standing in groups
All looking fresh and new
No one looked old except for a few.

Jealousy bloomed in my chest
My blood started to boil;
Why was everyone so pristine?
And me just the ancient trash;
In the fresh waters, I just wanted to splash.

I threw tantrums everyday
And painted myself to get attention;
Everyone noticed me; I was novel
This feeling got me too high;
That i couldn’t stand when it went by.

Today again I stand in front of mirror
Dark circles thriving under my eyes;
A face so pale it could pass for ghost
And sockets under my cheekbones;
Clearly, the blow had landed low.

I don’t pretend anymore, I am so tired of the efforts
When i know fame ticks away with the clock;
I wake up and ignore the mirror for good
Because the truth only crushes the dreams;
And as it ruins, inside it makes you scream.
