If you want people to come in, you have to open the door
Hollow

Before you stands a hollow man
With bandages so torn
Substance ripped from where it ran
Imagined since its born
All this time considered whole
A master of its world
Until it found a brighter soul
A bolder beat unfurled
A beat to beckon, summon forth
Too avenues so strange
Too shores that reckon, further north
So far, so out of range
So far, so foreign, out of touch
So distant, out of sight
A place so missed, by oh so much
In a space dismissed as right
Asylums wrapped in bandage, swathed
At home we count our stock
A syndrome feared, hopes are saved
A culture it can shock
Treatment from an outside source
that somehow seems to fit
As meds, they run their final course
They show us where we sit
Sold a bold illusion, bought
The act of being whole
In darkened nights on webs we're caught
A silver moon extols
Praises, points at voids inside
Daring us to dream
To find someone to join the ride
Scaring up a scheme
To fill a hole we didn't
even realise was there
To make us run and lose the splint
sprint to some place where
Someone else can fill the void
And we in turn fill theirs
Survivors out at sea so buoyed
Swimming out in pairs
Yet even when we sense the pull
And tides they call our name
Sirens sing, with voices full
Sweet, yet laced with pain
… for now, I am a hollow man
Frayed bandages amiss
Finding substance anywhere I can
… but where it truly is
