Prompt "You expected to be sad in the fall."
"You expected to be sad in the fall."
You expected the Grim Reaper to call,
You said that your life was a pain,
Happiness you could never attain.

Though I loved you with all of my heart,
Your gloom finally tore us apart,
Love cannot live without light,
It cannot survive depression's blight.

I begged you each day to get aid,
But you were always too afraid,
You thought death lurked outside our front door,
Each night you could hear his roar.

I can no longer live with despair,
I can taste your fear in the air,
Please, forgive my self-preservation,
Leaving you is my sanity's salvation.

Line Count: 16
Form: Quatrains stanzas rhyming abab.
