A lonely man comes to terms with his predicament.
Gray people whisper to me
The leaves translate their thoughts
I never thought I would be here
Kiss the shadows on the ground
I do not make a sound

I have learned things on my chase among the leaves
The cool breezes trapped in shadow
Whisking words to the tip of my tongue

My Shadow prowls country roads
The autumn leaves falling
Beating in the wind like technicolor hearts

I lean closer, closer now
Tell my friends of shadow what I've always known
The fact that I'm alone

Shadows, they may whisper and flicker
Move in the Summer breeze
But that's all they are
Mere reflections, ghosts upon the ground
For shadows--
They do not have hearts
