10 year old boy dealing with cancer.
I Am A Rocket Made of Steel
(For Gabriel)

I am a rocket strong as steel.
On either side are my fins.
And like a seal a shiny head too.
Come see for yourself!
Like a mirror is your reflection.
Can you see?

I see but how could this be?
A young boy such as thee to have a shiny top?
I can see my very own reflection.
It’s beyond belief!

Well, you see, I am a rocket gleaming with pride.
The fins I have will take me right to the sky.
I can go wherever I please.
No points do I need to redeem to get my first-class window seat.

Sun is my mother.
Moon my dad.
Stars my friends.

When I awake
The Sun is there to make everything all right.
Her beautiful rays keep me warm. Her beautiful smile keeps me safe.
She nourishes me so I can be strong for this flight I must take.

At night time the Man in the Moon
Shines his glowing head through my bedroom door
As I prepare for tomorrow’s story of flight.
He reminds me:
“It’s time for bed.”
To the Stars, you must bid a good night.

So now you must sleep.
And
When you awake, the Sun will be there to
Prepare you for your flight.
And for those who may not know
You will share your stories of this boy
A rocket made of steel.
