A brief letter to oneself
Careful, careful, my tender heart
Don’t jump so quickly at the chance.
Be careful with the beating path
You tread for yourself when you dance.

It is I who’ll have to clean up the mess,
Try and piece you back together;
And in the wake of your blissful ignorance
You’ll close yourself up forever.

Stay still when I tell you to quiet;
Remember how fragile you are.
I know you’re bleeding affection,
But the world out there will leave you dry.

Careful, careful, my curious eyes,
Don’t trust everything you see.
Many a times have you been fooled
By hollow, meaningless beauty.

Watch out for the weeds and the thorns,
They can hide themselves so well.
You’re known to fall into their trap
And cast yourself under a spell.

Don’t wander around aimlessly,
In vain looking for perfection.
There may be something right below
Searching for you attention.

Careful, careful, my woeful mind
Don’t dig yourself in too deep.
Be patient with your broken self;
Don’t hang on every single word they speak.

Don’t listen to every venomous lie.
They spit them out like seeds.
Forgive their tormented hearts,
Look up ahead, and do not heed.

But most of all, my afflicted soul,
Don’t run away like you always do.
Remember these lines when all else fails;
The harshest words always come from you.
