A man's last thoughts.
Once upon a midnight dreary
While I pondered weak and weary,
A shocking revelation came to mind;
What is it that I’m leaving behind?

When the night’s astounding mystery
Slowly drapes itself over me
Does my soul go up in smoke?
Or will it slowly seep and soak?

Little did I know back then
This thought would never come again,
As when I stumbled down my path
He came at me with all his wrath.

Not a shatter, not a sound
As I came tumbling down.
I was holding back the pain,
He was quiet all the same.

It went quickly as it came,
Not a breath nor words to gain.
As the light drew from my eyes
I was in for a surprise.

My most prized and loving gift
Had been left upon a rift.
Mostly rare, and highly sought,
A noble, forgiving thought.
