Saying goodbye because I can 33 lines
Dear friend

Today I say good-bye to you my old friend
I am leaving you behind and I will miss you
So many years together we have lived
Hand in hand from dawn til dusk and in between
You have kept me company through my growing years
Accompanied me through good and bad right and wrong
The time has come to put the memories to sleep
No longer am I blinded by your false comforts
You are a love relationship gone badly
Yes there was a time it was cool to hang out
When I was younger and did not understand
You take and take and leave me feeling guilty
You bring no joy to my life or my spirit
I feel bad when I am with you
I see the people passing by glance my way
With their annoyed looks and lack of understanding
I wish I could disagree with all of them
But I cannot and I will not close my eyes
It is true I have been stuck under your spell
I am breaking free from your grasp forever
Don't try to tempt me with your pretty silver lining
Misses Marlboro with your super ultra-light flair
I am moving on to live another day
Filled with hopes and dreams, goals and commitments
I know the road will be rocky and steep
But I am willing to travel that road
No more will you etch lines upon my face
Take the very breath away that God gave
You soon will be a faded memory
And I will be the passerby looking
Not with disgust but with much empathy
Because I know the legacy you leave.
