Promt 3, GoT: Sad moments in life. ~ Poetry

It was a simple, sultry, First of July, when I last spoke to you
We talked of things that were on your mind, Your heart so heavy, too.
Because your friend was dying, her time was drawing near, The doctors said:
“Make her comfort be felt and share lots of love” was the message family heard
Each night you called, and she would listen, too weak to answer back,
but she whispered words at the end, and thanked you -- then,
she told you, ” tomorrow, please, same time, again”

Your sad words filled my heart as you unburdened all your fears, of not having Anita, there, for you to share, all the childhood memories, with your cousin so very dear, “What will I ever do, when Anita’s not here any more? My generation’s is going fast... My brothers are gone, all but one.
Now my best friend, my cousin, also leaving me, behind?”

Our conversation lasted an hour, I even paced the floor
You loved to talk to those you loved; each day, twice, maybe more
But that afternoon, I wouldn’t interrupt, to get another task done: I felt your
deep hurt and worries, weighing upon your mind.

The dialogue, it soon turned light, As we talked of other things that mattered ...
The grandkids’ futures seeming bright,All the laughter and the chatters.
Because anything you said that day,I filed away forever,
in my heart and spiritual soul -- I’ll lose it not ... Never!
those words will remain deep inside, sealed within so tight,
I had no idea on that July first, afternoon, that you’d be gone that night!

I miss you, Mom, now four years gone, since you’ve drifted from my life
My tears still flow as I write this, now, reliving our travels, tangles,
adventures and a sprinkle of awkward woes of days in youth,
the growing pains every youngster learns to strive. But especially,
those precious times, when all good things shone bright...
How do I ever fill, the huge space you’ve left behind?

I will open my heart wider to our loved ones
I promise, Mom -- I will try! Just know this:
You were my sweet angel-mom, the best friend of mine
I pray these words will reach you, now
where your soul’s so free -- sublime
