My son Eric was serving another tour in Afghanistan and I wrote this to him.
I Thought of Someone Today
By Teresa Blakely

Looking back, I see a small hand in mine.
Your blue eyes looking up at me.
I'm wondering, what kind of man you'll become?
As you hand me your treasure, a small rock...
I thought of someone today.
I have seen the man you have become a husband, father, son and soldier.
You have decided to be like so many of your ancestors before you.
For the love of your family and country.
You give of your life, that cost with every breath you take.
The freedom we all cherish so much.
When so many take that freedom for granted, I know that cost is so very high.
I thought of someone, today.
Now I see a small hand in yours.
Your Blue eyes looking down into mine.
You whisper in my ear as you hug me goodbye,
Mom everything's going to be okay.
As you hand me a small rock to remind me.
The sacrifices that you make to protect our freedom are not in vain.
I pray for your safe return and those who walk with you.
I thought of someone today....
