Flash Fiction
Eclipse

“It’s getting dark.”

“Maybe a storm coming?”

“There don’t seem to be any clouds, no wind either.”

“Well, the clouds must be where we can’t see them. It’s still early let’s go find some food.”

“OK... yeah, but don’t you think it’s weird, the dark I mean?”

“It does seem darker now that you mention it. Look at those shadows. Let’s go on top of the hill and see if we can see what it is.”

“Oh, my gosh! The sun is broken!”

“How can the sun be broken? It’s the sun!”

“Well it must be broken. It looks like some of it fell off, well as far as I can see... it’s still too bright to look at.”

“I’m not gonna look at it, it hurts my eyes. Maybe it is broken. I guess we’ll just have to get used to the dark. I never thought about how much light the sun makes before. It’s gonna be kinda sad without it.”

“Sad! Sad? It’s gonna be dark all the time! I can’t see in the dark, can you see in the dark? It’s gonna be dark all the time! All we do in the dark is sleep! We can’t sleep all the time, how are we gonna do things if it’s dark all the time? How...”

“Hold it! I think it’s getting lighter now... Yes! It is getting lighter! Maybe the sun didn’t actually break! Maybe it just got behind something and we couldn’t see it!”

“That’s stupid. How could the sun get behind something?”

“I don’t know, but look it’s getting lighter and lighter!”

“Fine, you’re right. I guess the sun isn’t broken after all, thank goodness!”

“So, let’s go get some food! I’m starving!”

The eclipse forgotten, the two lions went to find dinner.
