Continuing through trial
I have no romance in my soul

I only have regret

Forgiveness may make me whole

But I cannot forget

The careless way he spoke to me

The times he fed me lies

Puffed up with pomposity

Cruelty in his eyes.

I once cried tears of mirth

Now my laughter has fled

Chased off when told it had no worth

I’ve joylessness instead

And he is pleased to break me

With spiteful words and deeds

To deny and forsake me

Until my spirit bleeds

My life a barren tundra

And my heart cries out “relent!”

I’m drowning, going under

My strength fails, I’m spent.

But he cannot grasp all of me

He cannot take my peace

Imagination sets me free

A constant friend, release.

Now my joy is gone.
