The Ballad of Silence

A time of turmoil brought upon
By wavering hope and troubling times.
A man brought to power despite opposition.
The only votes counted from high positions.
The silence rose in deafening reply.

And spread his words like they were glitter
Across the wired web, abroad.
Sent his dissenters quite a-Twitter
With every rant and rave, a titter.
Then silence rose in deafening reply.

A wall to shut the others out
Or perhaps to keep his prisoners in.
And cost them dearly! he did shout
Let’s throw them out and keep them out!
But silence rose in deafening reply.

And told the women, who were “free”
How to live their lives, withdrawn.
All of your bodies are for me,
He said and passed the laws only to see
The silence rise in deafening reply.

The money spent and time gone by
To show his worth atop the throne.
Wavering doubt and turmoil arise
Amid the neglect of powerless eyes.
A new, big Bad for us to blame and chastise,
And his silence will rise in deafening reply.
