If some leave a footprint in your heart, let them know when they're around, life is short
Phantom Steps

He dwells amidst the corners, curled up cowardly, so clean
Unmarked, his pages warn her, unsullied, free in scope
Unkempt from life's molasses with the callouses unseen
Praying stones harass less, when skimmed, so full of hope

Where tears meet with laughter, regrets converge with when
When hindsight rides in after, to play with what he missed
On ferries long departed, couldn't spare the fare back then
If the voyage could be started, all the places on that list

So he stows away on ghost ships, plotting journeys on the waves
As he blows away the cobwebs, that gathered whilst he slept
From a soul so arid landlocked, in need of being saved
He sailed out from dry dock, to map the path she swept

On broken winds he sails, through the trail of her dreams
On spoken fins he tails, sails full with masts so tall
Some sirens sing songs lightly, whilst some in the darkness scream
Some ships, they cross paths nightly... some never do at all

Yet as the wind and rain blows, and sun peeks out... sets low
Rain rescinds and wind slows, with sepia light cast,
… and he wonders where the pain goes, when he dances 'midst her rainbows,
through the plundered, phantom footsteps of her past
