A semi-comic science fiction poem I wrote while researching for my current novel.
Bug-Eyed

Invaders from a distant star
Come probing to see who we are
They likely scratch their bug-eyed brains
Perhaps get painful brainy strains

How can we be so unconcerned
about our world so chopped and churned?
Why do we spoil the place we live?
Why do we bomb and shoot and shiv?

We hurt ourselves in one long fight
And never stop to set things right.
Our knowledge must be heaven sent
We're surely not intelligent.

"So long", the bug-eyed lizards cry
As they ascend up to the sky.
"A puzzle too complex to solve.
Give us a call when you evolve."
