memories of a man and his father
The old rusty truck sat
surrounded by tall grass,
reminding him of a time
that would stick with him forever.

He reached back into his memories
of long ago drives
sitting beside his father
as they bumped along the rutted pasture.

He remembered the creases
of his father's face
caked with dirt and sweat
from long hours on the farm.

The exhaustion in his father's eyes
was evident each and every night,
and yet they drove on
with just the moonlight lighting their way.

The man ran his hand
Along the rusted metal,
feeling the rough metal
that had weathered with age

He thought about his father
and the many drives they'd shared
with nothing but the sound of owls
and crickets in the night.
