A conversation between a husband and wife is full of surprises.
Alfred did you get everything I asked for on the shopping list?
Yes, dear.
Well, I will be the judge of that.
Yes, dear.
Sandra started taking everything out of the grocery bag.
Alfred, why did you buy a green banana? It won’t be ready for days.
Yes, dear.
Alfred, why did you buy rope? I know I specifically asked for string.
Yes, dear.
Let’s see what else you screwed up. Alfred, you know this isn’t the soap I like!
Yes, dear.
Look, you bought expensive ice cream and frozen dinners. Have you no regard for what I want?
No response.
Alfred, where are you? Alfred answer me! A-L-F-R-E-D
In the garage, dear.
Sandra walked out to the garage and was shocked to see a brand new sports car sitting where their old car of fifteen years should be.
Sandra was ready to explode, but before she could say a word Alfred said, let’s go for a drive and I will explain everything. For once Sandra didn’t argue.
Alfred said, let me just grab a few things and we’ll take a drive out to the lake.
Sandra said, o-k-a-y.
Alfred went to the kitchen and grabbed the banana and rope. He put them in a bag and he and Sandra drove off.
Later that night Alfred returned home. There was nothing but silence as he entered. He fixed his favorite frozen dinner and had chocolate peanut butter ice cream for desert. He slept so peacefully that night.
