A poem about those we take for granted
Oh, so close behind
You always feel them there;
Their scent is always with you,
Floating in the air.

Oh, so close behind
Their presence thick with care;
You take it as a given,
This affinity you share.

Oh, so close behind
You need not even look;
They could never disappear,
Familiar as a favorite book.

Oh, so close behind
They have not spoken in a while;
You spare a glance-
...

Oh, so close behind
You always thought they’d be;
And yet, despite your clarity,
You could not truly see.
