A short tale told in short phrases.
I walked.

The street was narrow.

All around me was the everglow of the battle that had happened before.

A battle that will never be forgotten.

It was one of souls, not bodies; one of words, not deeds: one of emotions, not actions.

It was more than disappointment - it was disbelief.

I walked this same street yesterday, except yesterday I looked upon it with a hopeful eye.

Today I looked upon it with gloom.

Today, the street was not alive, but dead; not exciting, but boring;

Not wide, but narrow.

The street, just as the city, just as the country which it lays in, was not as wide as it was yesterday.

It will never be the same.

They told us it could never happen here - but it did.

I walked, and the street narrowed, the light at the end now extinguished.

The Malus Rex had won, and with it our pride, hope, values, and future died.

I walked.

The street was narrow.
