An admittedly lengthy poem (648 words) that I thought would suit my first post on here.
The sun
Bright as the smile i saw
On that day

Shining so bright and beautiful
You’re entranced
And you never wanna look away
Unknowing to the fact
If you look for too long
You’ll be hurt

My tan arm
Blocking the harmful rays
So i wouldn’t be hurt
Like i knew i would

Lyrics from a song
Floated through the courses of my mind
A song i wrote
Simply for the feeling of release

Then the song
The melody i created
Floated through the air
Through the trees and around the leaves
To where i lay

I wondered how
How could a song i have never shared
Be floating through the air
As i lay

I rise to go
To go find the source of the singing
The singing

So beautiful it was
The singing
That i heard floating through the woods
Angelic and pure
Not a note wasn’t clear
Not a word misunderstood

I searched the trees
Through around and behind
To find the source of the singing
The singing

And soon came into view
A figure
Quite angelic in itself

Long hair
Dark as the earth
The rich brown earth
It stood on

Bright long
Flowing dress
White as a lily
In the new spring

The angelic creature
Who’s mouth still sang
Still sang those beautiful notes
Turned to me
To where i stood
Stood between the trees

Eyes
Blue blue eyes
Rivaling the sky above her head
Looked at me
Through me

And her lips parted
To reveal the sun
In her mouth
In her smile

Like people are
I became entranced
Enraptured
In the bright light
That was this angelic wonder’s
Smile

So i stood
Between the trees
Eyes wide
Yet relaxed
Wondering what i had found
Under the sky
On the rich earth

She sang onward
Matching each note
Each word
From which i had written
Just a day before

No thought came to me
To how this beautiful
Beautiful
Woman
Had come to know my song
My tune
That i had written
Just a day before

She drew near
Nearer
To where i stood
Between the trees

I could feel a wind
Rustle my hair
My hair not as dark
Not as rich
As this angelic creature’s
Not as dark
Not as rich
As the earth we stood upon

She drew nearer
Nearer still
Until she stood
Just a few lily pad lengths away
Still singing my song
Unnervingly accurate
Her eyes
Blue blue eyes
Looked into mine
And i couldn’t look away
Her smile
The sun in her mouth
Not wavering
Not falling

The song
Slowly
Oh so slowly
Started to finish
Or
Come to where i had ended
Just the day before

The woman
The beautiful
Beautiful
Woman
Reached the end of the tune

She closed her eyes
Holding the final note
So beautifully
So perfectly
I closed my eyes
And simply
Listened

The note floated
Drifted upon the winds
Landed on leaves
Rooted in the soil
And i open my eyes
And the angelic woman

Is gone

I look around
Hoping to see the bright dress
As white as lilies
But see nothing
Nothing but trees
Through around and behind
Nothing but trees

I wondered
Wondered and pondered
Whether i would ever see
The angelic woman
Again

My heart felt alone
So cold and alone
And i had only seen the beauty
For a minute
Maybe two
But i felt alone
Cold
And alone

Just like the sun
How it can be so beautiful
So life giving
But if you look too long
Cherish too much too quickly
It can hurt

And sometimes
It doesn't warm
It leaves cold
Dark spots
In it’s wake

And although the woman
Is the warmest thing
To touch mind
My sight
My heart
She can leave
Cold spots too
Just like

The sun
Bright as the smile i saw
On that day
