Just something I started writing
Ten minutes. For ten minutes, Jamie had been staring at the blank page in her journal. Writing had never failed to bring her peace and happiness, but today she found that she had hit a wall. For the first time in a long time, she was unable to shift her mindset into a creative space where she could write epic fantasies and tales of adventure. It was pretty difficult to write about anything with a happy ending when her own heart was breaking over and over again. She glanced at the clocked and watched the hand tick by, as if it were some impatient child tapping his foot, eagerly awaiting any kind of solution. She sighed and decided that it was time to go for a walk, that perhaps she would be able to clear her mind of the past months' events and discover something to write about. She grabbed her shoes and jacket and set out on the trail nearby.
This trail was one of her favorites to walk on, as it was incredibly peaceful and scenic, especially near the lake. Jamie decided to lose herself in the steady crunch of her footsteps on the gravel, thinking about nothing but the rhythm as she ventured on her journey. The leaves had started to change color, and some of them even fell from the trees around her as she walked by. They almost seemed to be acknowledging her presence by raining leaves upon her as she passed through. This was by far her favorite season, because it symbolized the coming of some of her favorite holidays and memories. Memories with him, she thought to herself for a brief moment, then quickly pushed the thought out of her mind. He was not going to control her thoughts forever, she would eventually be able to forget all of the memories that she once treasured so much. She continued walking, until she came upon a fork in the road, which she knew too well. She turned to the smaller road that branched off of the trail, and climbed through the trees and up the hill along its path. Once she had reached the top, Jamie let out a smile. This was her favorite spot of all. At the bottom of the hill was a breathtaking lake with a small dock alongside it. She walked down to the dock and sat down. She inhaled deeply, breathing in the scenery, then exhaled. Jamie closed her eyes and listened to the sounds around her of the wind blowing along the water and the birds chirping. She opened her eyes and looked down at the dock. Her face turned to disappointment as she ad forgotten what had been etched in one of the pieces of wood. Slowly, she traced her finger over the carved out heart, along with the words "to the moon". She had come here with him a few times. A tear fell down her cheek as she remembered that specific night:
She had wanted to show him one of her favorite places to go in one of the best ways possible. Jamie didn't tell him where they were going, but told him to bring along a blanket and picnic basket. When they had reached the dock, he spread the blanket out over it. The blanket did little to help ease the discomfort of the wood against their backs, but neither of them seemed to care, they were so in love. It was late at night, and the stars were shiny brightly over the lake along with a full moon. The shadowy glow that the moon had cast onto the lake was so inviting and beautiful. The pair had spent all night there, and it had been the first time that he had told her she was the one for him.
