Free verse version of a dark fate.
I can see the darkness in their eyes.
Hands out, they reach for me,
Grasping for what remains;
There's nothing left, but
The vultures come again.

I pluck out an eye to feed them.
More, more, they cry,
Their mouths full,
Choking,
Bodies bloated, yet
They pull me back
Into their bloody
Embrace.

What do they want from me?
My soul, my heart
Have been torn to pieces
And I feel no more.
I give them all I am
And all I will be, yet
They yearn for more.

Must I become like them?
Will I be just another
Parasite,
Unable to see
Unable to feel
Only gasping
Hunger.
Hunger.
Hunger.

Feeding

I rise again.

I
Feed their emptiness with my fears.
My joy, my anger, my sadness,
All funneled away
Carefully,
Carefully now,
Till there is nothing more, yet
The vultures come again
