A letter to my younger self 23 years later.
February 24th, 1996

Dear Seaman Recruit Caldwell,

You will be joining the United States Navy in six months. I know you'll be walking 3 miles a day to get in shape. While that will make you look good, walking alone will not help you in the exercise portion of boot camp. Start running now. It may be uncomfortable to run, but it will be better than the Recruit Division Commanders dragging you across the ground as you gasp for air. It's embarrassing and mortifying at the time. I don't regret that it happened to me because it taught me a lesson, but if you start now, you will have an easier time in the military with carrying TVs up the ladder well. That's all I'm going to let you know for now. I don't want to change the timeline too much. I kind of like it where I am at the moment. Good luck shipmate.

Veteran, IC2 Caldwell
