What the New Year means to me...
A new year replaces the old
Hanging from a nail on the wall.
Photos of playful cats
Sometimes chasing butterflies,
Nestled in a pumpkin,
Or wearing Santa’s hat.

Each page marked with reminders,
Scribbled shopping lists,
a birthday or two.

The months pass by in a blink
Of playful, feline felicity.
A reminder of all that’s left undone.
All that cannot be.

A new year replaces the old.
Puppies.
Frolicking, rowdy puppies.

The forlorn kitties are tossed away
To a place of darkness
That smells like rotten potato peels
And old calendars.
