Written for Dark Dreamscapes poetry contest Round 31
(22 Lines without spaces; 26 with spaces)

Donning his robe synonymous with fear,
It is a bittersweet but welcomed affair
To tend to an appointment with an
Un-spelled and willing participant.

Manifesting without the weight of his violent and bloody effects,
He takes his stance across the floor in a sincere and welcoming display.
He spreads his arms to convey the open invitation:
Come dance with Death and decide if you
Truly want his full embrace.

The steps align with an easy rhythmic waltz.
Nothing fancy aside from the occasional two step sway.
His embrace is steady...
No more or less than the comfort level he senses.
He will continue to respect the space between partners
As it is not his decision to make.
His hands position for a strong and supportive presence
As his partner considers the consequence for closing the distance.

It is a decision he knows no soul should consider lightly.
His patience is a show of his appreciation for such special assignments.
So few opportunities arise where he can honor a choice,
Rather than forcing a dance with one who decided impulsively.
It is a nice change to be received with respect
Than appearing in the face of fear and regret.
