A contest entry that talks about a lady's love of nature.
My old maiden aunt died in her cozy cottage
Her earlier life in the city was dedicated to spreading
comfort to injured soldiers
from war to bloody war.
She moved to the country to enjoy the beauty of the country.
Soon she joined the local garden club
to work the same miracles on her quiet little home garden.
She planted young sunflowers, blue bells and phlox.
They responded to her touch and
attracted some colorful butterflies and productive bumblebees.
In the morning, she could hear the chatter of sparrows.
She could see the robins making their nests for the lovely eggs.
She had a lovely smile all day
that was brighter than the sunshine from the sky.
As she watered her garden the combination
of plants and animals gave her the feeling
of being one with nature.
I know that she had this same feeling
until the day she passed away.
