It's the time of the season
Springwatch

Spring climbs kaleidoscopic,
with such butterflies cast blue
Flitting round the tropics,
with wings a brighter hue

Whilst back here on home soil,
the visions play out green
Beneath a sun we're spoilt,
by a sun so rarely seen

Yet some live by a different light,
for some, the sun is moot
Pointed in a pebbled plight,
and dashed out rough to suit

With spades we dig so carefully,
to diamonds, enslaved
In hearts, we play hands cagily,
in clubs our cards are craved

As long spun schemes, they splinter
So pagan, yet so pure
A fortress built for winter,
through the summer, can't endure

Raised with best intentions
Reluctant for the fall,
as maidens without mention,
tarry longer with their thrall

An ode to empty spaces
A sombre song for spring,
echoes round the places,
where such faces missing, sting

Opportunities we pray for,
chances struck, crossed off the list
Opportunities we pay for,
… and the chances that we missed

Forged memories, they sinter,
songbirds migrate on the wing
As towers built for winter,
lose their purpose in the spring

Foundations solid, left in doubt,
it's purpose, played in part
Whispers of the soul cry out,
as yearnings of the heart

flit out to distant tropics,
sunny shores where angels sing,
with butterflies kaleidoscopic
… where hope eternal springs
