Time waits for no man, but tides can run both ways
Times & Tides

Times when we were younger,
the tides stayed out for days
Playing on an endless beach,
in castles tall, we played

Castles built from finest sand,
so fragile, so ingrained,
Tides oft warned by flags that spanned,
the dunes and banks we trained

But time, it waits for no man,
and tides, they run both ways
A rhyme that runs in tandem,
with the ides of brightest days

Through days so long 'tween rise and fall
the sun will have its arcs
As night times fall, and moons arise,
scanning, light and dark

Shades of grey migrate inland,
with structures craft from stone
Some journeys travelled hand in hand,
… with some traversed alone

Veneers polished, shiny, slick,
a place to hide our fears
Yet tides can turn and slide in quick,
… the marching of our years

Some might make more coastal steps,
… the most of every day
Fortunate are those who tread,
nor lose their sense of play

Their passion or their wonder,
beyond the boundaries confined
That tides can rip asunder,
leaving not a lot behind

for the quick step to our twilights,
we bleed back out to shore
Seeking out the playgrounds,
where we used to play before

Where tides went out forever
Pastures paved with golden sands,
with tides more close together,
than remembered, or was planned

Where undertows pull quickly,
taking trinkets when they turn
Leaving stars on spent horizons,
as we watch the sunsets burn

'cause tides, they wait for no Man,
Woman... Beast... or Thing
Forever churning in and out,
for what they take... they bring

So play with trinkets offered,
and secure what is yours
In the end, we are all borrowed,
… Sons and Daughters of the shores
