A small Summer Tanager teaches bigger principles of appreciating the little things.
The tanager, he came to me
And sat upon an old pine tree
He sang and sang each single day
While I just went about my way

Until one noon I heard the song
It hit me that I had been so wrong
To never pay mind to what he sang
Through sharp beak with chirping twang

I studied that song every minute
Part of something bigger and I was in it
How God could make a bird so small
That stirs the soul with every call

I learned to love nature's peace
And appreciate my life's short lease
For in the woods the little tanager sings
And teaches me to cherish all things
