I told my best friend a "never been told" secret, and I'm glad I did.
May 12th, 2018
Throat dry
Heart pounding
12:45 AM
Sleep is the last thing on my mind.

A secret is clawing at me
desperate, screaming to get out.
Holding it in will do nothing but hurt.

A dear friend lies next to me,
My bed is like a rock.
Two hours have passed now.
She is fighting sleep;
I am wide awake.

Shaking
Sweating
Scared

"I should have told you this a while ago"
Blood is rushing to my ears.
I can no longer hear myself.
Am I about to faint?

She is awake now
A concerned look forms on her face
Curious about what I have to say.

I
Can't
Breathe.

Nothing feels real.
Tripping over my words.
I don't think I can do this.

Suddenly it's over.
My secret is shared,
I am greeted with acceptance,
in the form of a soft smile
and one simple word: "Okay"

I'm going to be okay.
