Poem likening my mother to a spider at the center of our family web. 1st draft was in 2011
My mother's like a spider
in the centre of her web,
spinning silken threads to
bind her children to her and to each other.

She uses her knowledge and skills
to influence every family member
so they care deeply for their siblings' welfare
and reserve their greatest love to her..

She gathers her descendants
like decorations around her
and makes her shiny web
attractive and hypnotic.

Every Sunday morning's a family celebration
with all her grandchildren playing in the attic
while their parents gather downstairs listening
to her spread good news and family memories.

(Author's note:
---- Some of this is first draft because I've made so many amendments and added 8 new lines.
I think I need one more verse to make it end less abruptly ---
