When it rains, it pours
Flood Plains

Out there on the flood plains,
a moon hangs low tonight
Waiting as the blood drains,
bleeding out of sight

A ghost town 'neath a reservoir,
abandoned down the hill,
with life disrupted near... far,
and flood zones far from still

We wait for someone selfless,
to help us in our plight
Yet ones who help the helpless,
… alone, they seem to fight

With ghouls out on the marshlands,
and phantoms on the moors
Wraiths haunt where the souls stand
… a scarecrow's thankless cause

In essence made of flesh and bone,
in blood and sand we bare
In the end, it's lived alone,

With fields full of scarecrows,
imagined planned or real
'cause when wings blacken, scare grows,
they help us learn to deal

To deal with where time flows,
as water levels rise
Before the final dam goes,
with “Where's” and “What's” and “Why's”

We try to find a reason... rhyme,
a pattern, plan or scheme
Life's pendulum keeps slicing time,
a treason seeded dream

and when the last of blood drains,
we make our way to sea
Out there on the flood plains,
… forever, you will be
