A couple agrees about the love of September.
A forever September, forever said he;
let’s forget all about wintertime misery.
Catch the rays of the sun and a breath of fresh air;
old September can linger with winter nowhere.

Make a case for September, said she by his side;
’tis the ninth month in which summertime will abide.
Though the days do grow shorter with sun setting fast,
a September delights, so I wish it would last.

It remains a transition from summer to fall;
autumn readies bright hues because it hears the call.
With the equinox, day and night have equal time;
yet that’s only one day, then the night starts to climb.

I would rather September detain his own ground;
I’m against freezing rain and the wind’s howling sound.
I could wish I was Joshua stopping the sun;
but that’s too much to ask—life on Earth would be done.

Still the Earth could remain with the sun going forth;
(it would steady its ecliptic path in the north.)
And so winter could sit with a gust in his mouth
since the path of the sun would not head to the south.

Then September would stay—nights refreshingly cool;
Halloween would be okay with goblin and ghoul.
A September so fine and so dandy, said he;
just in case you’ve not noticed I’m with you, said she.
