Pumpkinhead at large.
Octoberfest DDPC Round 34 Week 1 Prompt 10/1-10/8

Night Meeting

So you stand your ground
unimpressed by my glowing eyes
and jagged teeth?
Not disgusted by my corpselike body
or fainting in fear as the fog
throws its funeral wreaths about me?
It’s an uncommon stance,
this weary nonchalance,
and I confess it gives me pause.
It must be ignorance
gives bravado;
what else would leave you unafraid
of dreaded Pumpkinhead.
Not heard the name?
That’s soon mended - a tale or two
should help respect
and frigid fingers find your heart
to teach of terror terminal.
Still you stand unmoved,
a vile affront to all that gives me life.
Have they told you that?
What drives me to my hateful deeds?
‘Tis vengeance gives me power to prowl,
vengeance all my urgent wish,
vengeance my reason and my dream,
revenge the meaning and the end.
It’s true I don’t remember why
this single purpose leads me on
to murder, mayhem, malevolence.
But here’s a fact to chill your bones,
I do not care, for reason’s not my thing.

Now come, night walker,
face your fate.
You’ve found your stalker
and it’s too late
to run, to fight or even plead.
Say welcome to your Pumpkinhead.
