A poem I wrote for creative writing class.

Words

Screeches that somehow
Mean something more than
The harsh blur of consonants and vowels
They are comprised of
The indescribableness of reality
Somehow described in a sound

Phrases like weapons
Lashing at our souls
Bringing us to the dark depths
Of human emotion with a single
“I hate you”
Yes even the strongest of emotions
Are nothing but a sound in our ears

Phrases like a healer’s bandage
Taking the blinding fog
And dispelling it with a sonic wave
“I love you”
Simple
Yet so powerful men live and die for it

Words
Give us sunshine
Give us rain
Sometimes I wonder if they describe our reality
Or if they are the creators after all
